A romantic family history which catches the imagination, gains the admiration of fellow Clansmen for its continuing achievements and arouses sympathy for those caught up in post-war colonial struggles
Welcome to Dunmaglass, the website of the MacGillivray family in the Netherlands.
Dunmaglass is the name of the estate East of the River Farigaig near Inverness in Scotland, which was in possession of Clan MacGillivray for more than six centuries.
Firstly, I just want to say a very sincere thank you to everyone who pledged their support for my further tenure of Commandership for another year. I read some very touching and moving statements of support and these were very uplifting and so inspiring.
I can only say that it is an honour, once again, and very humbled to serve such a fine Clan, with such fine people. I am so proud of everyone from the various corners of the globe and all the work you do to keep our tradition alive and breathing and to make it exciting and ever flourishing. It is a real privilege to stand with you all as one, making our history as we walk it together and pave the way for our future generations to come.
Secondly, and crucially at this stage, is to update you on the current situation of the Clan MacGillivray International Gathering.
We have a couple events managers in place, who have been ready for some time now, to administer things forward from when they were last abruptly halted in 2020. Although many of the restrictions have lifted here in Scotland and things have opened up more - some of the venues/ organizations/ associates we were in conjunction with have yet to declare their situations and/or are non operational anymore, meaning that we cannot yet seal a specific date for next year 2022. Two essential elements to this are the Inverness Highland Games and Eden Court Theatre, both of which haven't got event managers so far, who we were co-ordinating with previously, but will have something set in stone come the end of September/ start of October. The Inverness Highland Games is hosting its 200th Anniversary next year in 2022 and we need full and confirmed approval from them if we can still host part of our Gathering there 2022. Eden Court, will also have a backlog of events to cover for the last year being cancelled.
Our aim is to secure a spot as soon as we can and one that is logistically sound as possible, but we need all these venues to have their things in place before we can move forwards with ours.
I hope this information has made things clearer and at least it's something that we can update everyone with.
I admit, it's not ideal having to wait this long before we can give full details and confirmation of dates etc, but it's the circumstances we are dealing with currently over here and we are very anxious, as are all of you, to hear further.
So thirdly, if there are any questions or concerns, please do email me here, and I can address anything that is required. Please don't hesitate to contact me with anything at all and it would be good to get your perspective on this and how you feel about things as they stand so far. Even if people are thinking whether we should stick with 2022 or move to 2023, any kind of feedback is good for us to know so we can gauge things as best as we can from here.
I know when we decided on 2022, I arranged video chats with each of our Commissioners/ MacG Pipe Band/ Gathering entertainers. We can certainly do this again if need be and arrange times that suit you all over the next while and that way we can discuss.
With kindest Regards to all and yours in the Clan!
Slainte agus le Beannachdan!
Commander of Clan MacGillivray
